Estimates use city/state-average irradiance and PM Surya Ghar CFA slabs (₹30,000/kW up to 2kW, +₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000, residential only). The subsidy applies to both on-grid and hybrid (net-metered) systems — it covers the solar capacity only, not battery storage. The electricity rate is auto-filled from your city’s average but check your latest bill and adjust it here for a more accurate result. Off-grid systems depend heavily on your load profile and aren’t covered by this tool — get in touch for a custom estimate. Actual pricing depends on roof condition, shading, panel/inverter/battery brand and a site survey — this is a starting point, not a quotation.

## **How this calculator works**

This calculator gives you a quick, directional estimate based on your city, system size, and electricity rate. It uses average solar irradiation, tariff data, and standard rooftop performance assumptions to calculate savings, subsidy, and payback.

### **How the number is built**

- **Generation:** System size × city peak sun hours × performance ratio.
- **Savings:** Monthly solar generation × your per-unit electricity rate.
- **Subsidy:** PM Surya Ghar central financial assistance for eligible residential rooftops.
- **Payback:** Net investment divided by first-year savings.

**Solar potential by city**

| City | Peak sun hours/day | Avg. tariff |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Hyderabad, TS | 5.4 | ₹7.5/unit |
| Vijayawada, AP | 5.5 | ₹7.0/unit |
| Visakhapatnam, AP | 5.3 | ₹7.0/unit |
| Tirupati, AP | 5.6 | ₹7.0/unit |
| Warangal, TS | 5.4 | ₹7.5/unit |
| Guntur, AP | 5.5 | ₹7.0/unit |
| Chennai, TN | 5.2 | ₹6.5/unit |
| Coimbatore, TN | 5.3 | ₹6.5/unit |
| Madurai, TN | 5.4 | ₹6.5/unit |
| Bengaluru, KA | 5.1 | ₹8.0/unit |
| Kochi, KL | 4.8 | ₹7.8/unit |

**PM Surya Ghar subsidy slabs (2026)**

Residential rooftop systems can receive central subsidy support up to 3 kW, subject to scheme eligibility and approved installation norms.

| System size | Subsidy | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 | ₹30,000 per kW |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | ₹30,000 per kW |
| 3 kW & above | ₹78,000 | ₹60,000 for first 2kW + ₹18,000 for the 3rd capped here |

Note below the table: Applies to residential rooftop connections only, installed by an MNRE-empanelled vendor using ALMM-listed panels. Commercial/industrial connections aren’t eligible for this central subsidy but can claim accelerated depreciation instead.

### **FAQ**

1. **How accurate is this calculator?**

It’s built for quick, directional estimates using city-level solar and tariff averages. Your actual output depends on roof orientation, shading, panel brand and local DISCOM rules a free site survey narrows that down to an exact quote.
2. **Does the subsidy apply to commercial rooftops?**

No. PM Surya Ghar’s central subsidy is residential-only. Commercial and industrial installations instead benefit from accelerated depreciation and, in some states, separate incentive schemes.
3. **Can I install more than 3kW and still get the subsidy?**

Yes, you can install up to 10kW under the scheme, but the central subsidy itself is capped at 3kW worth of capacity (₹78,000), regardless of how much larger your system is.
4. **What’s the difference between DCR and non-DCR panels?**

DCR (Domestic Content Requirement) panels are manufactured in India using domestic solar cells. Government-subsidised residential rooftop schemes require DCR-listed modules non-DCR panels aren’t eligible for PM Surya Ghar.
5. **How long does installation take after I request a quote?**

Typically a site survey happens within a few days, followed by DISCOM approval, installation and net-meter commissioning. End-to-end this usually runs 4–8 weeks, depending on your DISCOM’s processing time.
