Overview
Sree Santhosh Garments, a LEED-Platinum certified, eco-friendly garment factory in Tiruppur, has installed a 180 kW AC / 150 kW DC solar power system using high-efficiency 550 Wp panels to cut costs and carbon emissions.
Execution
Sree Santhosh Garments is known for its fully integrated green factory processes, from spinning to garmenting and strong sustainability programs. To add to this, they installed solar panels across their facility roofs, using high wattage panels (550 Wp) to maximize power output per panel. The system was matched with modern inverters and connected to the factory’s internal power structure, enabling smooth operation alongside existing electrical loads and monitoring systems.
Result
-
Electricity Cost Reduction: This system likely supplies ~25-30% of daytime energy usage, helping reduce electricity bills significantly given the factory’s heavy load during day shifts.
-
CO₂ Emissions Prevented: With ~150,000-180,000 kWh generated annually (approximate for 150 kW-180 kW systems in this region) and using a grid emission factor (~0.8 kg CO₂/kWh), this project helps avoid around 120-150 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
-
Monitoring & Oversight: Real-time monitoring ensures the system’s performance is tracked, maintenance is proactive, and any performance drops are quickly addressed.
-
Property & Brand Value: The solar installation reinforces Sree Santhosh’s reputation as a sustainability leader (they are India’s first LEED-Platinum Green Textile Factory) and increases the long-term value of their assets by lowering operational costs and showcasing environmental responsibility.
