SCM Garments Pvt Ltd (Knitting Division)
Overview
SCM Garments’ Knitting Division in Tiruppur has installed a 366 kW AC / 475 kW DC solar system using SolarEdge inverter + optimizers & Goldi 550 Wp panels, to step up its sustainability and cut power costs.
Execution
SCM Garments, one of India’s leading knitwear exporters with vertically integrated operations (knitting, dyeing, finishing, garmenting) and well known for its sustainability commitments (e.g. Science Based Targets Initiative).
For this project, they chose high-efficiency 550 Wp Goldi panels paired with a SolarEdge system with optimizers to ensure module-level yield (better performance in shade, mismatch, etc.). The panels were installed across multiple rooftop sections of their knitting facility, with careful design to ensure sunlight exposure, proper tilt, and integration with building electrical infrastructure. Real-time monitoring was included so that performance can be tracked constantly.
Result
Electricity Bill Reduction: The system now meets a substantial portion of the facility’s daytime energy demand, helping reduce monthly billing by about 18-22%.
CO₂ Emissions Prevented: Assuming typical solar yield (~1,200-1,300 kWh per kW/year) and grid emission factor (~0.8 kg CO₂/kWh), this installation likely prevents ~450-500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
Monitoring Systems: SolarEdge optimizers + a dashboard allow SCM to monitor each string/panel’s performance, quickly identify issues (like shading or under-performance), and maintain high efficiency.
Property & Brand Value: Adding such renewable energy infrastructure strengthens SCM’s environmental credentials, makes the facility more attractive to global brands looking for sustainable suppliers, and enhances the long-term value of the asset (lower operational cost, more resilient energy supply).
